The Business of Video Games: From the Reality of Virtual Worlds to Casual & Serious Games

Event Title: The Business of Video Games: From the Reality of Virtual Worlds to Casual & Serious Games
Creators Panel, Entrepreneurship Track Event
Date: Nov 13, 2007
Time: 6:00PM - 8:00PM ET
Location: HBS Aldrich 112
Description: From the Reality of Virtual Worlds to Casual & Serious Games
The videogame market is a $32 billion monster, but the highest growth in interactive entertainment is found in new, spin-off industries. Hear local games-industry leaders profile and debate three of the newest new-media forms.
Our session will cover:

Virtual worlds: These graphical online communities range from high-buzz pure sandboxes (Second Life) to high-profit pure games (World of Warcraft).

Serious games: Virtual-world & simulation technologies & techniques are being taken directly from electronic games into education, training & healthcare.

Casual games: Easy & accessible games have always been popular, but now they're becoming big money-makers as well.

Presenters and panelists include:
Host: Alexander ?Sasha? Gimpelson is CEO and co-founder of Quaint Interactive, music software company, a developer of the award-winning Interactive Classics Series. Quaint is a recipient of over 35 awards including the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers.

Was pretty good. Lots of data on serious and casual games. They bashed SL and I felt that was extremely short sighted, but they seemed to only be focused on ways to increase the money in their wallets.
